The new F-Series relies on precise and homogeneous convection from established reflow technology, as a reliable alternative to conventional heating plate concepts in the market. At PCIM 2026 in Nuremberg (June 9–11, 2026), visitors were able to take a look at the new F-Series at SMT Thermal Discoveries' booth, 5-406.
The new F-Series relies on precise and homogeneous convection from established reflow technology, as a reliable alternative to conventional heating plate concepts in the market. Instead of using flux to remove oxides from metal surfaces, formic acid acts as a reducing agent – it chemically removes oxides during the soldering process.
With its F-Series SMT Thermal Discoveries presents a solution for power electronics and the semiconductor market. The soldering process can be carried out without tools. It is THE alternative to using conventional flux concepts.
By using vacuum, the solution also guarantees to almost 100% completely avoid air inclusions. The F-Series fully meets the requirements in demanding application areas in cleanroom environments. Another area of the application is selective convection for water-cooling agents.
The concept is based on heat transfer through convection, which is regulated by individually and continuously adjustable fan speeds. This ensures a homogeneous heat transfer into the product with a low cross-sectional profile per product. In addition, the system is flexible for use with different products in a consistent process – product mix is possible.
Workpiece carriers with a flexible grid concept can be used, or laser-cut inlays can be employed to carry out the tool-free soldering process on the oil-free transport system.
The efficient evaporator process of the F-Series guarantees precise dosing and saving of nitrogen and formic acid.
The intelligent safety concept ensures that formic acid is used only under vacuum. In addition, a stable N2 environment is established, and gas detection systems fully accompany the process.
